We decided to wander off to Te Papa today to have a look at the Rita Angus exhibition, after catching fish'n'chips from Wellington Trawling Seamarket (warehau in a light thyme batter - yum). Interesting exhibition - I liked some of her landscapes, especially the southern ones with the wide skies and glorious colour, and I loved the studies she did of Bolton St Cemetary before the motorway went through, but all in all it wasn't really my kind of art. What I did like was seeing how she portrayed the spirit of the people she painted, rather than their faces - the portraits were recognisable as the subjects, but she was more interested in light and shade and shape and spirit than making an exact reproduction of the person's face. Interesting. We decided that we preferred the Constable exhibition that came a year or two ago - I'd sit in front of Salisbury Cathedral all day for weeks if I could.
Survived the office move with minimal hitches - just a couple of small issues to iron out tomorrow but it went remarkably smoothly.
