Too two!

You wouldn't believe winter officially starts tomorrow right now. I'm sitting in the study with the sun very warm on my back; it's calm, beautiful, and blissfully quiet as the rugrat is asleep - and so she ought to be after yesterday and this morning!

Yesterday was her birthday. We brought her into our bed for a spot of present-opening when she woke just before 8am. The winner in the present stakes was definitely the Thomas the Tank Engine toy phone that we got her - she won't let it out of her sight! A close second as far as I was concerned was the t-shirt my sister got her: Canterbury colours with the legend "Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was the suspect"!

We spent the morning pottering around Lower Hutt (I'd taken the day as leave). She chose sushi for lunch (the girl has good taste!) and we came home for her to have a nap. She has recently become obsessed with gingerbread men following discovery of the story, so we made gingerbread men together after her sleep as a birthday treat - I'd never done this before so it was really fun to work it out together, and we tried out the biscuit cutter hubby found the day before. They turned out really well and she was really interested in the whole process of baking. I'd moved her little drawing table into the kitchen so she could help with the rolling out and cutting the "ginger men".

This morning, we had to get up at about 5am to get hubby into the airport for the 7am red-eye to Auckland (check-in was 6.30am: yummy....), so she's pretty tired although she did sleep on the way back from the airport and again after we got home at about 7. We spent the morning doing houseworky-type things and then went downtown for a while to sort out a few things. Hubby is back tomorrow: he's up there for a Playcentre conference so it's a girlie weekend. Her official party is on Queen's Birthday Monday.
