The absolutely flawless Oxford English Dictionary may not be so flawless after all. An Australian professor researching siphons has discovered that the OED definition of how a siphon works has been wrong since at least 1911. However, 99 years of incorrect definitions of siphons doesn't seem to have stopped people figuring out how to use them to nick petrol....
