Active waiting

Sr Laurel had an interesting post on her blog today about the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, and the waiting that we have to do - the active kind of waiting where we are always ready, always aware. As she puts it, 'The ordering of our lives in terms of promise, not merely of possiblity, and it means the constant reordering our lives accordingly as time goes on.'

Promise, not possibility. What promises have I made that I am ordering my life around? What kind of waiting am I doing? Is it active, or am I just sitting back and waiting for the good life to hit me in the face and say "I'm here"?

Maybe that's what this is all about: active waiting. Interesting thought.
