Safe/unsafe

Good day today for me. Got lots done at work on the big project I'm working on, had a very positive teleconference with another one of my big clients, and there's talk of a secondment which would be fascinating. All around good day, and very productive. It also helped that the sun was out, although it was unusually cold for September. Apparently tonight it's going to get down to 3 degrees, which is colder than it was most evenings in winter!

However, it was not a good day (again) for workplace safety in NZ. This time a massive explosion in a bitumen tank on the West Coast, again involving a contractor. That's three fatalities in the last month... when will we learn? Every other Western country has a falling accident rate: ours is static or rising. Sometimes it's depressing being a safety person in NZ.
