Contemplative service

St James has just started a monthly contemplative service. It's been an idea that's been floating around for some time, but suddenly came together about a month ago. Tonight was our first service.

The concept for the service tonight had come to me about 3am one morning a couple of weeks ago, and the others suggested I lead it. I haven't led a contemplative service like this for about 10 years so was a bit nervous, although I used to do a lot of them when I was studying spiritual formation. I sat down one night last week and the meditations on the readings just came, and tonight it was totally out of my hands: I was just facilitating other people's prayer. Lots of candles, silence, chant, and peaceful prayer.
