Bagless in Nelson

I dislike satchels for laptops - they're heavy and I feel lopsided. I prefer a backpack that I can put the laptop into and spread the load over both shoulders - got something to do with my focus on ergonomics, I guess!

Today, I had a crisis. My backpack died. Completely. The main zip pulled out and the whole thing split apart, just before I was due to go out to site. I managed to fit the laptop into the same case as the data projector and struggled out to site, and then after we finished for today, went searching for a new laptop backpack. But this is Nelson. Everything closes at 5.30pm, and I didn't get out of the course venue until just before 5. I was running around the whole of the CBD looking for a bag shop - any bag shop! - but there didn't seem to be anything there. I finally found a surfie shop still open that sold backpacks and found one that seems to be okay. It's pretty sturdy so let's hope it's up to the job. And kudos to the very helpful girl at Hogey's Surf in Nelson - she was awesome and held the shop open for me to get my bag! Go Hogey's!

Te Ware Whare sells bags and luggage and is open until at least 8pm everywhere...

I looked in TWH but they didn't have any laptop backpacks, which is what I particularly needed. They had satchels, but not backpacks.

ah grasshopper...they have the ubiquitous "gear bag" that has a super laptop pocket...$40, indestructible...even at (ah-hem) km/hr on a motorbike
